Fix Trips Tool

Explanation of how the Fix Trip tool works and when to use it.

Updated over a week ago

With the recording of trips, there might be an error with the entry or update of a trip and you may not know how to correct it. This could be because the starting location was changed or updated and you may not know how to correct it. The Fix Trips tool is available to quickly use the existing data to correct it with the available data. There are a few requirements to be able to use the Fix Trip tool

  • The Trip has a driving route (the blue line between the From and To locations) with driving data

  • The Route has 2 or more waypoints (white dots on the blue line with waypoint information, hovering will show you this information)

What does the tool do?

If the trip has the required driving route and enough information the following steps are processed. If the trip does not meet the requirements it is not processed.

  • The first waypoint on the route will be set as the FROM location.

  • The last waypoint on the route will be set as the TO location.

  • The trip mileage will be updated based on route features and recording type

    • MagicTrip: the recorded route will use the collected waypoints (white dots) to calculate the Google Maps driving distance between waypoints to calculate the trip total (Jump to Example)

    • All Other GPS recording methods: the recorded route will be calculated using the polylines (blue segments) using sampled points (not recorded "corners" 60 seconds apart on average) measuring the shortest distance between the two sampled points. (Jump to Example)

This would be a trip that I need to correct using the Fix Trip Tool

Accessing the Fix Trip tool

Single Trip Edit

In the Trip Detail Under the Map, click the Fix Trip button as indicated

MultiSelect Edit Menu

Selecting one trip or multiple trips and Applying the Fix Trip tool

Edit > Fix Selected Trips Mileage

Important Message: As detailed in this article the changes may be unintended and possibly incorrect. The tool is meant to correct something you may not know how to correct and will use the driving route to get the closest approximation. Use caution if selecting multiple trips.

Processed Example

This is the example trip processed with the Fix Trips button, the From and To Locations are updated and the mileage total is recalculated.

Mileage Calculation Examples

Magic Trip Routes

The Waypoints are measured using the Google Maps driving distance between each collected waypoint on the route and totaled for trips mileage. If you want to see these waypoints you are able to export the trip driving route by selecting the trip and pulling the Export > Trip Routes

All Other GPS collection methods

Each Sampled point on the driving route including waypoints will have a blue line (polyline) with a sample point on the route with distances. These are not visible as an export but are part of the driving route below is a graphical approximation of the division of the driving route and polylines.
