General Troubleshooting and Tips for Identifying and Correcting Issues

Updated this week

Quick Tips

These steps will correct may of the initial issues that may affect Mobile Apps in general. These are a good first step

  • Rebooting the Device may resolve many basic issues

  • Restart the app by force closing it (swipe up or switch apps and close) Then Re-opening

  • Check that you are on the current version of the app iOS (App Store Link) or Android (Play Store Link)

  • When using the app DO NOT force close the app process. If the app is forced closed it will not be able to track automatically.

AutoStart Troubleshooting

  • Verify Your Subscription Status
TripLog App > Main Menu ( ≡ three line icon ) > Your Plan (Click on the Email) > Verify a current plan (should refresh and show your current plan)
If the plan updates and shows the payment is current AutoStart will Resume.

  • Verify that the autostart is not disabled.
Validate with the message at the top right that it is set to your desired AutoStart
TripLog App > Main Menu ( ≡ three line icon ) > Your Plan (Click on the Email) > AutoStart (select and enable your Autostart)

  • Verify that the autostart is not paused.
The top right of the Trips Page will show the status icon.
It will show the Green Circle for Ready or the Pause symbol if Paused.
Tap on the Autostart status at the top right to unpause.

  • Check that there is not a current running trip.
The Red Circle at the bottom center of Trips page
Click the circle and update/save the running trip to reset the autostart

  • If MagicTrip is slow to respond or starts intermittently set the Responsiveness to 'More Responsive'
TripLog App > Main Menu ( ≡ three line icon ) > Your Plan (Click on the Email) > AutoStart On > Responsiveness

  • Car Bluetooth, Triplog Drive, TripLog Beacon or PlugnGo do not pick up some trips
Check the Timeout Setting and set it longer (recommend 20-30 minutes longer the better).
This needs to be set to longer than the time from Power On to Starting Driving

Validate Settings and Permissions

  • LOCATION PERMISSION
Validate the Location Settings are On and set to Always Allow with Precise or Detailed GPS enabled
TripLog App > Main Menu ( ≡ three line icon ) > Your Plan (Click on the Email) > AutoStart On > System Permissions (Check for All Blue Checks)
Allow any permissions to allow GPS tracking

  • Disable Battery Optimization and Allow Background App Refresh
Make sure to disable any Battery Optimization and Allow Background Access
Make sure the phone is not put in Battery Saver or Do Not Disturb

  • Storage Settings
There is an Android-specific permission that may have split or removed the storage permission check to enable storage permission

  • Network Access Allowed
The device may have app-specific cellular or wifi access to allow Triplog to sync or use the other tools. Be sure to allow access.

  • Bluetooth / Nearby Devices Allowed

Required for Car Bluetooth, TripLog Drive and TripLog Beacon operation

If you are having issues with Auto Start or Reporting please confirm you are correctly logged into the app
Triplog App > ≡ Main Menu > Account: Log out and back in (make sure to delete the email field and type it in again when logging back in) make sure to select the Merge Data option if prompted.

Reinstall the App

As a last resort, you can try to reinstall the app. Please try to create a backup or sync with the web before deleting it.
